FAFSA Simplification Press Conference

At today's White House press briefing, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman spoke about the changes in store for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Duncan said questions will be reduced by 20% and web pages in the online form will be reduced by 50%.

The collaboration with the IRS involves a web application that allows applicants, or presumably their parents, to load information quickly from their tax returns to the FAFSA form.

The press conference is posted at the C-SPAN web site, and the FAFSA segment opens the briefing. It lasts about 18 minutes.
